David Byer-Tyre
A native New Bernian and artist who is currently the director/curator of the African American Museum of Nassau County, NY, will exhibit his work at Bank of the Arts. As director, Byer-Tyre's goal is to educate people about African American culture using contemporary approches and present-day issues.

With Liberty and Justice For All
The month of February begins a celebration commemorating those people who have strived to achieve liberty and justice for all people without regard to race, religion, or gender.

Winter Wednesday Workshops
These weekly workshops will offer a chance for families with children to get out of the house during the winter and get hands-on with history! Topics will vary week by week, concentrating on domestic skills and every day life in the eighteenth century. Tickets are $4 for adults, $2 for students. Reservations will be required.

Trip to Bern
Be sure to watch the the 30 minute documentary on the trip to Bern and the Palatine. The documentary will be presented by UNC-TV at 9:30 PM. (Suddenlink customers can view the documentary on Channel 715 or Channel 4)

Reading Fun Day
The Sun Journal Newspapers in Education is sponsoring their annual "Reading Fun Day" as a community outreach event for children birth to 12 years old and their families from 10 AM to 2 PM at the New Bern Mall.

Come out and enjoy fun booths, costumed storybook characters, and activity/reading stations.

"Artful" Bowls - 300 Bowls for 300 Years
This event is a joint fundraiser at Temple Baptist Church. Area restaurants donate soup, and potters contribute bowls for sale. Proceeds benefit Religious Community Services and Craven Arts Council & Gallery.

This event builds on the cultural heritage of New Bern and is intended to demonstrate both the compassion of this community in taking care of the less fortunate, and the strong value of the arts in our history and current culture. Pottery, the oldest art form, will be created by local artists. With every luncheon ticket, participants will select a pottery bowl that they may keep as well as enjoy a lunch donated by local restaurants.

Antique Show
The New Bern Preservation Foundation will hold its 22nd annual Antique Show February 2010 at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center. There will be more than 40 specially invited dealers from the entire Eastern seaboard who will offer 18th through 20th century furniture, prints, linens, silver, crystal, glass, jewelry, books, toys, civil war items and much more for sale. There will also be verbal appraisals, presentations, and raffles held during the show.

Let’s All Bunt
A continuing series of workshops offered throughout the anniversary year, which will introduce visitors to the history of patriotic decorations, the use of bunting throughout the years in New Bern, and offer directions on how to make bunting. Advance registration is required. It will be held at 1 p.m. in the Tryon Palace Visitor's Center Auditorium.
