As part of the 300th Celebration in 2010, there will be a History Bowl with matches beginning during the First Night® celebration on December 31, 2009 and ending with the semi-final and final rounds on September 25, 2010. These matches will involve 9 teams from the New Bern area. Teams were solicited from schools, businesses and the general community including neighborhoods and retirement homes. They completed applications and were chosen by the First Night® committee. Teams consist of four members, and additional alternates. It is our hope that this will provide an interactive and entertaining way for New Bernians to learn more about our history, to meet others in the community and to engage in some fun and friendly competition.
Matches after the opening rounds on First Night® will be held on Saturday mornings from 9am-12pm at Orringer Auditorium at Craven Community College. See the schedule.
During First Night®, each team participated in a practice game. No teams were eliminated from the History Bowl during the practice rounds. The next games will be elimination rounds. The final game will be between the winners of the semi-final round. The first, second, and third place teams will win money prizes. These teams must designate a charity that will receive one-half of the team's prize, and the team members will receive the second half of the prize. Teams have named a charity for which they will be playing in their applications.

Questions will be prepared primarily on New Bern area history. Teams were provided with a study booklet prior to the start of the rounds.
